Founded in 2011 following a merger of three separate local unions, Local 158 currently represents more than 4000 heavy equipment operators, mechanics, and stationary engineers in New York State’s public and private sectors. Our three districts represent the territories of each of the original local unions - Local 106, Local 545, and Local 832 - and each office is fully staffed to service the needs of our members. We are now one local union, but maintaining these district boundaries preserves the pride and allegiance which is so important to long-time members and retirees.
Local 158, through its three Districts, has been representing Operating Engineers in various parts of Upstate New York for over one hundred and nine years.
Local 158’s Charitable Fund Scholarship Application for 2022 is now available!

Remembering Lori Gibbons. . .
“It is with great regret that we have to inform you all of the passing of our dear friend Lori. Our deepest condolences go out to the Bill, Kendal and Teddy Gibbons. For nearly four decades, Lori touched so many members’ lives with her dedication and great sense of humor. She always took that extra step to ensure that our members were taken care of to the best of her ability. She will be greatly missed by all members and staff of Local 158.”
